Gabon is located on the Equator on the west coast of Africa. It has the most beautifull forest and beaches probably in Africa.
Gabon with a small population of less than 1 million has had the chance to have it forest and beaches remain prestine
and almost completely virgin from human interraction.
My father is from Gabon and I lived there 12 years or so when I was a child and when I was a student at the university
Omar Bongo.
Gabon could be a very important area of the world for the conservation of nature and this last part of the world where
the forest is still inhabited or where only the pigmies and local tribes are aloud in the jungle.
For the last 40 years or so Gabon has been exploiting timber and allowing big timber operations destroy its forest, even
though it's controlled, the damage has been done already - however President Omar Bongo has signed an agreement creating 11%
of the country's territory as national parks.
Mike Faye a National Geographic explorer and scientist has been instrumental in creating these national parks, and please
check out his work and support his project by visiting his site.
